An increasingly urban and ageing population poses a significant risk to the future of gardening. Can disruptive tech, environmental activism and an engaged youth save the day? We’re inviting you to guest blog on gardentags.com/revolution. If you have an opinion about the issues that face our industry and the wider world then we’d love to hear from you.
You’ll be joining top influencers including Christine Walkden, Michael Perry, and many more who are all putting their views forward on how we can collectively start a growing revolution. This will culminate in a live streamed debate where Jane Perrone (The Guardian), Skinny Jean Gardeners, Emma Worrollo – MD The Pineapple Lounge and Aga Otero CEO Repower London (The Energy Garden) will be debating “How do we spark a growing revolution?”. This will be lived streamed from the Barbican conservatory on 17 February @ 19.00 GMT as part of the Garden Press Event dinner.
Why care? The World Health Organisation regards childhood obesity as one of the 21st Century’s most serious health issues. Did you know this is the first generation that will not live longer than us? Getting children outdoors into the garden and excited about nature could have a dramatic impact on their physical health and mental wellbeing, also leading to greater appreciation of their environment. This blog series will look to the future and debate how disruptive technology, community action, government policy and a rebranding of ‘gardening’ can be a catalyst for change, leading to a gardening revolution. What to write?
We want this blog series to be rich with ideas. We’re not limiting it to a select few. It’s open to all. If you have an idea, big or small we want to hear from you. It may be a community project, a piece of tech or something you’ve seen or read about that you simply must tell the world about.
